Capabilities and Opportunities by Joe Polish
Situation 1: Your capabilities are smaller than your opportunities
No matter how motivated you are, or how bad you want it, you do not get your opportunities in life, until your capabilities are equal to your opportunities. You cannot make $100,000 income with $5000 capabilities.
Mess = Opportunity minus Capabilities (Opportunity without capabilitis)
When you think about what do you want to learn and develop, you rethink what capabilities you need. You are adding your capabilities so that you can reach your opportunities.
Situation 2: Your capabilities are larger than your opportunities
On the other hand, if you have capabilities, but the opportunities are beneath you. You need to make opportunities that are equal to your capabilities.
Everything that you say yes to has an opportunity cost, you don’t want to take on good opportunities, you should aim for the great ones.
Make sure that the opportunities are exciting enough so that you’re willing to do the stuff that you need to reach your goal. There are times where you want to give up.
